What is your perception of Highline schools right now? Be prepared to be shocked! Our once-rigorous academic curriculum has been radically changed in favor of expensive and non-measurable programs such as “Social-Emotional Learning” (SEL). These take away focus from academics.
This is cause for great concern. Our district is behind the rest of the state in all academic areas. Below is a graph of the most current percentage rating statistics using data from OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction):
Highline’s High School Academics Compared to State of WA Average Performance

All of Highline’s Comprehensive High Schools are below the state average, except for Mt. Rainier being above average in its ELA % score.
Only at Mt. Rainier, where there is less money spent per pupil than the state average, do students exceed the state average in ELA (English-Reading-Language Arts.) For the other three high schools, the expenditure per pupil is up to $5,000 higher than the state average, yet both academic scores and attendance are lower.
This August, vote for Highline School Directors and Board Members who advocate for meaningful support and improvement of district academic performance.
