Musician David Harsh Thrills Burien Audience during June 30th Concert

Talented musician weaves a “smorgasbord” of entertainment: delightful humor, personal heart-warming stories, and marvelous abilities on a wide variety of instruments.

On June 30, Highline Christian Church hosted a concert given by musician and worship leader David Harsh of Marysville. Brian Greutman, one of Highline’s pastors, introduced Harsh, saying he and David had been friends for 15 years. An audience of around 150 enjoyed this delightful “smorgasbord” of entertainment presented by Harsh.

One concert attendee later commented, “It was so good…..interesting, talented guy, amazing technician. I so enjoyed it!”

The concert was interwoven with delightful humor and personal, heart-warming stories, shared as Harsh demonstrated his marvelous abilities on several instruments. He had just come off of a three-week laryngitis condition and was very thankful he could perform. He gave credit to Divine help in being able to be there.

The songs presented were composed by Harsh (except for “Carol of the Tubes.”) They were expressions from his life experiences and Bible scriptures. He aims to bring messages of joy and hope to people. “Music is a fair and glorious gift of God,” declared Harsh. He is a “constant student of music, always looking for ways to grow,” he said.

The song “He is Singing Over Me” was taken from Zephaniah 3:17 in the Holy Bible. It was beautiful and moving, a song that drew the listener into deep worship.

Harsh shared some experiences about his family; one song was portrayed with a video in which his daughters, Maddy and Livvy, are seen dancing in a field. Harsh also told about a time about 13 years earlier when he had become enamored with a new cell phone, leaving his 4-year-old daughter feeling neglected. She told him, “I feel like your phone is more important than I am.”  That woke him up! He wrote a song shortly thereafter to remind himself that his family members were more important than “things.” “It’s so easy to forget what matters most,” sang Harsh.

The church stage was set with a very colorful display of long tubes.

These were the “Boomwhackers”.

At this moment, Harsh solicited a number of volunteers to help play melodies on the tubes; “Name that Tune” melodies were played, including music from Star Wars, Nursery rhymes, Gilligan’s Island, etc.  The audience was able to identify the tube songs fairly well…..this was an unusual, fun part of the concert!

In 1997, while in high school, David Harsh became interested in the “hammered dulcimer” after hearing Rich Mullins perform with it.  He developed a great fondness for the dulcimer, which is part of his concert program today.  (He played the first song he wrote for the  hammered dulcimer”, Dance of the Daughters”.) This instrument has a transcendent, lovely sound; hearing a musician play it is a unique and delightful moment.

David Harsh is passionate about imparting knowledge on guitar skills.

Harsh presents music tours throughout the year and is well worth following.  He will be giving Christmas shows during the holiday season, and his music will certainly add joy to your festivities.  We highly recommend his brand of musical fun and excellent musicianship!
