Burien Council Adopts Housing Code and Zoning Map

From City of Burien Planning Department on July 11, 2025:

City Council Adopts Housing Code and Zoning Map Amendments

On June 30, 2025, the Burien City Council voted to adopt Ordinance No. 868, approving updates to Title 19 of the Burien Municipal Code and the official zoning map. These changes support the goals of the Burien 2044 Comprehensive Plan, comply with new state housing laws, and expand opportunities for new housing in our community.

The adopted changes are effective as of July 9, 2025.

The updated zoning regulations are outlined in Exhibit A of the ordinance (starting on page 77 of the City Council packet). The updated zoning map is shown in Exhibit B (page 110 of the City Council packet).

For more information about the project, visit the Housing Code and Map Amendment project page.

Thank you to the Burien Planning Commission and all of the community members who participated throughout the process. While significant milestones were reached when the “Shape Your City” initiative concluded last year with the passage of multiple major plans (including the Burien 2044 Comprehensive Plan), there will be many more opportunities to participate as plans are implemented. The City looks forward to further collaboration with the community to continue planning for Burien’s future.

  1. Now watch the city, in an effort to achieve their vision of overly dense urban dump, back away from all of their building code ordinances like tree ordinance (where they will simply make developers pay the city to get exemptions ) Shoreline and set backs. These zoning plans are the work of outside influences like the radical unelected Puget Sound Regional Council who threatened holding grant money as hostage in order to get their socialist agenda propagated. The citizens of Burien need to vote out every single one of the current sitting Council Members at each opportunity.
