City Manager Notes WSDOT & Port of Seattle Have Competing Public Meetings in Burien

City Manager Adolfo Bailon became aware that WSDOT and the Port of Seattle had scheduled “competing events in Burien for two projects that will affect life in Burien.” Both are slated for the evening of November 14, 2024, at different school locations – Highline HS and Big Picture School.

Bailon states that, “the residents of my community should have the right to participate in public meetings in Burien,” and proposes that one of the departments make a change or add an additional meeting.

Here is the email he sent to both WSDOT and Port of Seattle:

Mr. Chepel and Mr. Lyttle,

I write to make a request to the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Port of Seattle.  I request that WSDOT and or Port of Seattle scheduling a second public meeting in Burien for the purpose of allowing Burien residents to share their concerns about the SR 509 Project and SAMP NTP, NEPA EA.

It has come to my attention that WSDOT and Port of Seattle scheduled competing events in Burien for two projects that will affect life in Burien.  The residents of my community should have the right to participate in public meetings in Burien – about projects that will affect their lives considerably – without being forced to leave prematurely to attend a second meeting of equal importance.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this issue.

Sincerely,
Adolfo Bailon
City Manager
