Early Primary Results Show Key Races Taking Shape in Burien, SeaTac, Highline, and King County

Preliminary primary election results are in for several key races in King County, but these numbers remain unofficial. Early tallies, released just after 8:00 pm, include ballots received and processed by Election Day, August 5, and do not yet reflect all mail‑in or challenged ballots. Results will continue to be updated in the coming days as counting continues, with the official certification scheduled for August 19, 2025.

The top two vote-getters in each race will move on the the general election in November.

King County Proposition 1 (six‑year parks and recreation levy)

  • Approved by approximately 70.1% (184,256 votes)
  • Rejected by 29.9% (78,646 votes)
    Strong early support countywide for renewing the parks levy.

City of Burien – Council Position No. 1

  • Hugo Garcia: 1,991 votes (43.37%)
  • Jessica Ivey: 1,300 votes (28.32%)
  • Claudio Fernandez: 950 votes (20.69%)
  • Cameron Boosman: 321 votes (6.99%)
  • Write-ins: 29 (0.63%)
    Advancing: Garcia and Ivey.

City of Burien – Council Position No. 3

  • Sam Méndez: 2,084 votes (45.67%)
  • Marie Barbon: 1,484 votes (32.52%)
  • Rashell Lisowski: 964 votes (21.13%)
  • Write-ins: 31 (0.68%)
    Advancing: Méndez and Barbon.

City of Burien – Council Position No. 5

  • Sarah Moore: 2,782 votes (60.76%)
  • Gabriel Fernandez: 1,081 votes (23.61%)
  • Jamie Jo Skeen: 682 votes (14.89%)
  • Write-ins: 34 (0.74%)
    Advancing: Moore and likely Fernandez.

City of SeaTac – Council Position No. 6

  • Michael Sanford: 783 votes (41.23%)
  • Bedria Abdullahi: 761 votes (40.07%)
  • Marianne West: 348 votes (18.33%)
  • Write-ins: 7 (0.37%)
    Advancing: Sanford and Abdullahi in a close race.

Highline School District, Director District No. 4

  • Ken Kemp: 5,093 votes (44.23%)
  • Damarys Espinoza: 5,060 votes (43.94%)
  • Shirley‑Nita Enninful: 1,279 votes (11.11%)
  • Write-ins: 83 (0.72%)
    Advancing: Kemp and Espinoza in an extremely tight contest.

King County Executive

  • Girmay Zahilay: 103,471 votes (40.39%)
  • Claudia Balducci: 77,590 (30.28%)
  • Derek Chartrand: 32,085 (12.52%)
  • John Wilson: 23,897 (9.33%)
  • Others: under 3% each.
    Advancing: Zahilay and Balducci.

Metropolitan King County Council – District No. 5

  • Peter Kwon: 5,422 votes (27.96%)
  • Steffanie Fain: 4,777 (24.64%)
  • Kim‑Khanh Van: 4,035 (20.81%)
  • Others: under 13% each.
    Advancing: Kwon and Fain.
