Voters in King County are showing strong support for the seven-year property tax to fund operation of the Regional Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), according to unofficial results released Tuesday evening.
With more than 254,000 ballots counted so far, 59.72% of voters have approved the measure, while 40.28% have voted against it. The tally currently stands at 151,495 in favor and 102,189 opposed.
Proposition No. 1 authorizes a seven-year property tax levy beginning in 2026 to fund ongoing operations and technology upgrades to the county’s forensic fingerprint and palmprint identification system. The measure requires a simple majority to pass, which it is currently exceeding by a comfortable margin.
Voter turnout at this stage of the election is 17.81% of registered voters. While the results are not yet final, they suggest strong community backing for continued investment in public safety infrastructure.
The tax is set to ad $0.0275 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
There was no opposition stated submitted to the King County Elections.
King County Elections will certify the official results on May 5.
