Best wishes to all as we celebrate our country’s birthday and remember our Founding Fathers, along with the multitudes of patriots who have helped secure our freedoms!
It is so easy to take our liberties and freedoms for granted. As we enjoy this four-day weekend with friends, family, and fellow Americans, let us be thankful! Let us also have a renewed determination in our hearts to stand strong to uphold our Constitution, obey the laws, and pursue virtue!
Our Founding Fathers knew the cost of freedom, and they put their lives and fortunes on the line, willing to sacrifice everything for freedom and liberty. What amazing men!
Here are some words of wisdom from our early leaders and patriots:
* “America belongs to ‘We the people.’ It does not belong to Congress. It doesn’t belong to special interest groups. It does not belong to the courts. It belongs to ‘We the People…’ ” (John Jay)
* “If it be asked, what is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic? The answer would be, an inviolable respect for the Constitution and laws.” (Alexander Hamilton)
* “If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.” (Thomas Jefferson)
* “Truth will ultimately prevail where pain is taken to bring it to light.” (George Washington)
* “Where there is no law, there is no liberty.” (Benjamin Rush)
* “When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon.” (Thomas Paine)
* “A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins.” (Ben Franklin)
* “Guard with jealous attention the public liberty.” (Patrick Henry)
* “No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved.” (Samuel Adams)
Sacred Freedoms
Let’s remember that our freedoms are sacred and must be defended. Let’s take some time to contemplate these words from wise, mature patriots. We must teach the new generations in our schools and family circles, helping them understand the tremendous price paid for all that we enjoy in the United States of America.
