Local Paralyzed Veterans of America Gets Technology Upgrade

On Thursday October 3, 2024, the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) hosted a gathering at its Burien location to showcase technology upgrades that provide disabled veterans with state-of-the-art digital tools.

The Burien PVA represents the Northwest Chapter. Disabled veterans from south of Olympia and north of Bellingham were present to hear about Comcast’s contribution.

One of the leading technologies Comcast is providing is QuadJoy. “QuadJoy” allows quadriplegics to interact and navigate computers through slight head movements combined with simple sip and puff air gestures. This advanced technology uses joystick movements and inhales/exhale input for cursor actions, and it is also “switch-compatible,” according to Comcast information.

Additionally, Comcast donated adjustable tables so all members could have comparable, ergonomic table options. In total, Comcast donated $65,000 in equipment to PVA in Burien.

A mural titled Boundless Horizons by Charles Conner, a US Army Veteran, was prominently displayed. The mural celebrates all the activities PVA is engaged in, including tennis, shooting, running, basketball, scuba diving, and others.
