Burien & Normandy Park Recycling Event and Bin Sale — Sept. 27

When: Saturday, September 27, 2025, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Where: Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center — 19010 1st Ave S, Burien
Who: Open to residents of Burien, Normandy Park, and King County
Payment: CASH ONLY — bring exact change. Fees collected at the event entrance.

Recycle hard-to-dispose items and pick up discounted rain barrels, compost bins, and worm bins. Processing fees apply to certain items (see details below). Only residents arriving by car will be served; walk-ups will be turned away. Secure your load — it’s the law.


Accepted Items & Fees

Electronics & Computers

  • No charge: computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, tablets, e-readers.
  • Also accepted: DVD players, VCRs, stereos, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, cell phones (please remove personal data).
  • TVs: plastic/wood-encased, big screen, and projection sets (no charge). For year-round options, see E-Cycle Washington.

Tires

  • Limit: 6 passenger tires (≤18″) free per household.
  • Fees: $3 each extra tire off rim; $6 each on rim; $10 large truck tire; $20 large truck tire on rim.
  • No oversized tires.

Batteries

  • Accepted: lead-acid (car, truck, marine, motorcycle, sealed).
  • Also accepted: alkaline AAAA, AAA, AA, A, B, C, D.
  • Not accepted: rechargeable/NiCad/cell-phone batteries; no lithium-ion (e.g., tool or vape) batteries. For more options: Call2Recycle.org.

Document Shredding

Propane Tanks

  • Residential only$10 each.

Porcelain Toilets & Sinks

  • $25 each; remove seats, hardware, wax rings.

Appliances with CFCs & Cooling Units

  • $35 each: refrigerators, freezers, household air conditioners.

Mattresses & Box Springs

  • Any size; $35 per mattress and $35 per box spring.
  • Vendor may refuse items it cannot recycle. No furniture/frames; no wet or soiled items.

Styrofoam & Packing Peanuts

  • Expanded polystyrene (EPS/#6) only: clean, dry white blocks; packing peanuts (any color) in a bag or box.
  • Not accepted: urethane foam cushions, hot-tub covers, expanded polypropylene, or foam insulation.

Not Accepted at This Event

  • Bulky wood
  • Cardboard (use your curbside recycling)
  • Household goods & clothing (please self-haul to donation centers; call to confirm hours)
  • Appliances (except CFC units) & scrap metal — these will be collected at a similar event this fall
  • Flatbeds and dump trucks; oversized, commercial, contaminated, excessive, or unacceptable loads may be refused

Discount Bin Sale (While Supplies Last) — CASH ONLY

  • $25 each: Rain barrels, compost bins, worm bins
  • Please bring exact change for user fees

Hazardous Waste Reminder

Do not put hazardous waste in the trash or down the drain. Labels often read CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER, or POISON and can harm people, wildlife, and the environment.
