Fathers, Festivals, and an Evergreen Farewell

Fathers, Festivals, and an Evergreen Farewell

This past weekend in Burien and Highline bustled with families, friends, and neighbors, enjoying perfect summer days. There was no shortage of events to attend. Between Strawberry Fest, the Dad’s Day Car Show, a farewell to Evergreen High School, and BMX racing at North SeaTac Park, there was plenty to do!

Hopefully, all the fathers and soon-to-be fathers were able to enjoy their weekend—grilling, sailing, watching cars, playing with their kids, or just relaxing.

The Burien Strawberry Festival was a delightful and lighthearted way to enjoy the community. There were vendors of all sorts, strawberry shortcake, and children giggling as they met animals in the petting zoo on Saturday.

We visited with the Tekerz robotics students, part of the successful Highline-area STEM team. The students had a blast showing off their award-winning robot and even gave visitors a chance to test out the controls. We spoke with Raj, one of the mentors, who told us that many teens were excited to sign up—and quite a few adults wished they’d had a hands-on tech team like this when they were in school.

It was lovely to see neighbors, vendors, students, and families enjoying a beautiful summer day on Saturday and Father’s Day on Sunday.

The Sunday Car Show in Burien’s main street was overflowing with people and unique vehicles of all kinds. Cool cars are hard to beat!

On the way to bid farewell to Evergreen High School, we passed by North SeaTac Park, where BMX SeaTac was holding Saturday afternoon competitive heats on the dirt bike track. Dozens of bikes and all-ages riders were flying through the air on a deliciously curvy course. Talk about energy!

We finally made it to Evergreen, where students and graduates had the chance to revisit their old stomping grounds and reminisce with classmates old and new. The halls were buzzing with warm nostalgia. Evergreen High School, in the Highline School District, will open its beautiful new building this fall, so this gathering marked a fond farewell to the old campus.

Hopefully, everyone had a delightful weekend—even if it was just catching a few rays on a beautiful day!

  1. Oh how I wanted to go see Evergreen and see if I remembered any of it but we had something already planned for that day. If I would had graduated, rebellious kid here it would had been in 1974. UGH so long ago.😉
