Arson Suspected in Early Morning Blaze at Highline’s Southern Heights Elementary School Building

Burien – An early morning fire began shortly after midnight this morning at the Southern Heights Elementary School in the Boulevard Park neighborhood. The building is no longer an elementary school, but it currently houses Innovation Heights Academy and Highline’s Virtual Academy.

Here is the statement from King County Sheriff’s Office:

“The fire in question is still under investigation by the King County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit.  At current time there is no other information we can release.   This is an OPEN and ACTIVE on-going criminal investigation.

“If anyone has information on this incident, they are asked to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311, or email tips to mcutips@kingcounty.gov.”

Today at the Highline School Board Meeting, Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran said that the district is committed to working with the insurance company to do everything possible to repair the building for the upcoming school year for students at Innovation Heights Academy and the Virtual Academy.
