Joseph Riverson of Samaritan Worldview has been working tirelessly in Burien to help homeless people find shelter and support.
Riverson goes from tent to tent offering water, food, and connection to services. He reminds people that they are precious and loved in the eyes of God – their life is not in vain, and they are not a mistake.
He and other volunteers meet weekly at the Burien Transit Center, and up until this week, they visited with those at the Courthouse Camp at 6th Ave SW and 149th St. (The encampment on King County property was cleared by King County on October 15, 2024.)

A few weeks ago, I met with Joseph and other volunteers at the Courthouse encampment. As I handed out water, food, clothing, and other supplies, Joseph and other volunteers continued to build meaningful relationships – speaking with loving kindness and praying with people in the camp.
Their intentional support for these people in crisis goes far beyond physical nourishment or mere “harm reduction.” Joseph and his prayerful team bring “food for the soul.”

Months ago, Riverson spent several nights in one of the homeless camps to better understand needs and how he could best intervene. His dedication to Jesus and his love for the people of Burien is unwavering.
This video shares the grateful testimonies of Jordan, Aubrey, Harley, and others who have found relief and a pathway of hope through Joseph’s consistent, faithful efforts.
