King County’s Burien Encampment – Updates and Activity Nearby

The growing Homeless Encampment adjacent to the Burien police station and District Courthouse continues to become more permanent thanks to King County Executive Dow Constantine.

Two weeks ago, the county began installing “immovable” fencing posts around the site to prevent the campers from continuing to expand their camping site. It will double as a “privacy” barrier. The county still refuses to have a conversation with the city leaders to discuss the “sanctioned” camp.

In the meantime, the crime at nearby businesses continues to escalate, and wandering naked, mentally ill, drug-induced people are becoming more commonplace.

Deputy Mike Mellis from the King County Sheriff’s office confirmed the incident:

“One of our (Burien PD) deputies came across a fully naked adult male running in the street at that location. The male was acting erratically and was having some sort of significant crisis. Our deputies used a less-lethal tool to help control and detain the subject. No obvious injuries were reported. The male was evaluated by on scene medics and was ultimately transported for evaluation to a local hospital.”

This is the encampment as of 7/24/24:
