Since 1986, nearing almost 40 years in the real estate business, Leslie Newman of Re/Max has not slowed down when it comes to helping individuals and families find their dream home. Located on 152nd Street, the real estate office is at the heart of Downtown Burien. While the agency does not focus solely on the Burien area, Leslie does enjoy being a part of the downtown community in Burien.

Living in Southern California in her early twenties, Leslie worked as an administrative assistant for the West Coast Construction Office of Kindercare. But after recognizing the appeal of being self-employed and being the boss of her own schedule, Leslie decided to take classes and obtain a real estate license. For Leslie, being a realtor meant having the best of both worlds: she could build a career, while also making her own schedule so she could spend time with her family and volunteer in the community.
Throughout Leslie’s long-standing career, she has met a lot of people, a lot of families trying to find a new home or sell their current one. But one family Leslie remembers with great fondness. During the economic downturn around 2008, a large family wanted to purchase their first home, a modest home. Working with a translator, as well as the family, Leslie was able to find the family a house that was being sold by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Around Thanksgiving of that year, the family signed the paperwork, and the house was closing. Leslie ended up driving all the way to Tacoma in the pouring rain just to give the family their new house key, and somehow managed to make it back in time for the Thanksgiving Eve service at her family’s church.
“When I came out of church that evening there were messages on my phone from the whole family, thanking me for helping them realize an American dream,” Leslie said.
Aside from serving the community as a realtor, Leslie has also filled a variety of roles through volunteering. When her kids were growing up in Des Moines, she would frequently volunteer at school auctions, classroom-related events, as well as volunteering through church. Leslie has also served on the board of Highline Medical Center Foundation, and is currently on the board of two homeowner associations.
