For many, the sound of familiar Christmas carols is one of the most delightful aspects of the season. Joyful songs waft through the air, around every corner, in every shop, inspiring patrons to be merry and, ideally, indulge their Christmas wishes. Local choruses, bands, and orchestras also provide concerts this time of year.
But how often do you hear random live choral music, especially in Burien?
Christmas caroling, or “singing joyful Christmas songs,” is not so frequent these days, so when it happens unexpectedly, it is a reason to celebrate and appreciate the blessing of the moment!

This past Friday, Burien’s Hope Church gathered a group of 30 passionate singers to share the gift of music. This joyful all-ages chorus brought musical warmth to people along 152th Street in Burien, from Town Square to Olde Burien, knocking on dozens of doors and lifting spirits through song.
Reactions ranged from boisterous cheers and applause following a fantanstic version of “O, Holy Night,” to the quiet appreciation and a tear from someone who really needed to hear the heartfelt “Silent Night.”
Our final stop was at the Transit Center to bring hope and love through a few final songs.
It turned out that a man had just overdosed in front of volunteers who were handing out food and clothing, offering support and prayers to anyone who asked. The man survived thanks to the efforts and prayers of many, but it was an intense reminder of the struggles at hand.
Yes, challenges in Burien still exist. People continue to struggle in a variety of ways, and there is work to be done, but the community spirit is lighter, and there is a feeling of hope in the air.
Thank you to the carolers for bringing a glimmer of joy and hope to the Burien Community!

Quote unquote—-“It turned out that a man had just overdosed in front of volunteers who were handing out food and clothing, offering support and prayers to anyone who asked.
