The Highline Public Schools Board of Directors has scheduled a Special Meeting for Friday, May 23, 2025, from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in the South Classroom at the district’s Central Office Building, located at 15675 Ambaum Blvd SW, Burien, WA 98166. This session, known as an Audit Exit Conference, will feature representatives from the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

Interested parties must attend in person, as the conference will Not be available to view online. There will be no public comment.

This public meeting is part of the standard process following a state audit, providing an opportunity for the Auditor’s Office to present their findings and for the Board to discuss any recommendations or concerns raised during the audit.

Given recent public interest in the district’s compliance with state and federal regulations, this session may offer insights into the district’s operational practices and transparency measures.

Regarding this Annual Audit, the Highline School District clarified:

Audit Exit Conference with representatives from the Office of the Washington State Auditor. The State Auditor’s Office (SAO) performs Federal, Financial Statement, and Accountability audits of every large school district annually. On Monday, May 19, 2025, Highline held the standard entrance conference with SAO for all 2023-24 fiscal year audits. The Federal and Financial Statement audits for 2023-24 have concluded, while the Accountability audit is still ongoing. At this meeting, the SAO will share the results of the Federal and Financial Statement audits.

As Burien.News reported on May 20, the auditors mentioned several additional citizen complaints currently under investigation, including:

  • Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA)
  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) violations**
  • Conflicts of Interest – for officials and key employees
  • September Cyber breach – public information management
  • Professional Expenditures – Board and Administrative Budgets

May 19 auditors indicated ongoing investigations, however, it is unclear if any of these specific complaints will be addressed in Friday’s Exit Conference.

Community members are encouraged to attend in person to stay informed about the district’s financial and administrative accountability. For those requiring accommodations or language interpretation services, please contact the Board Office at 206-631-3070 at least one day prior to the meeting to ensure appropriate arrangements can be made.
