Highline School Board to Meet August 20: Executive Session and Regular Meeting Scheduled

The Highline School District Board of Directors will hold a special meeting followed by its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at the district’s Central Office in Burien.

The Board Special Meeting: Executive Session will begin at 4:45 p.m. and last for one hour. In accordance with RCW 42.30.110, the Board will recess into executive session to review the performance of a public employee. No other business is scheduled during this session.

The Regular School Board Meeting will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Boardroom at the Central Office Building, 15675 Ambaum Blvd SW, Burien. The meeting is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend in person or watch via livestream at highlineschools.org/board-room-livestreams. Speakers must attend in person.

Meeting Highlights

  • Acknowledgement & Appreciation: The district will introduce new administrators.
  • Superintendent Reports: Updates will be provided on the budget, strategic initiatives, and labor partnerships, including remarks from Highline Education Association President Jeb Binns.
  • Action Items:
    • Revisions to Board Policy 6970 (Naming Facilities).
    • Renewal of $290,662 in software licenses for the district’s Verkada camera and security systems.
    • Professional services agreement with Seattle Children’s Hospital for athletic training services.
    • Annual renewal of district insurance coverage with Brown & Brown, Inc. and the Schools Insurance Association of Washington, totaling more than $7.3 million.
  • Introduction Items: Proposals for board policy revisions, contracts for special education services with multiple providers, salary schedule adjustments for staff, transportation agreements for McKinney-Vento qualified students, and the purchase of two new electric school buses through a Washington State Department of Ecology grant.

The agenda also includes updates on major capital projects such as the Pacific Middle School replacement and the Tyee High School replacement project.

As with all regular business meetings, public testimony is scheduled, and residents are invited to provide comments. Scheduled speakers may sign up by contacting the Office of the Superintendent at 206.631.3070 or by completing the form on the district website. Sign up begins at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, the week of the Regular Board Meeting; sign up closes at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting.

The meeting will conclude with a call for additions to future consent agendas before adjournment.
