Kevin Schilling, current Mayor of Burien, has officially announced his run for 33rd District’s legislative Position 1, recently vacated by Tina Orwall who was appointed to fill retiring Karen Keiser’s senate seat. House Representative Pos. 1 is currently occupied by Edwin Obras who was also appointed by King County Council.
The following announcement was released on Schilling’s candidate website:
Kevin Schilling, serving his second term on the Burien City Council and currently as Mayor, will run for the open Pos. 1 seat vacated by Tina Orwall. As Mayor, Kevin has taken bold action to address housing, homelessness, and public safety. His tenure has been marked by listening to the community and implementing policies that work. That’s the same approach that he’ll bring to the Legislature.
“I’m proud of what we’ve done to get more people off the streets and into shelters or transitional housing. We set up co-responder programs to connect people with services and to improve equity in policing. And we did all of that while balancing the budget and growing our economy.
“Cities have been at the forefront of our State’s biggest challenges. And we know what works! Olympia needs to step up now and deliver needed support to help provide the mental health, shelter, and especially addiction treatment services that we need.”Kevin Schilling is the only candidate in the race with successful policy experience addressing our community’s biggest concerns. As State Representative, he’ll prioritize workforce development, housing affordability, homelessness, and reducing crime by addressing our state’s drug epidemic.

One Response
It was inevitable that Kevin would take his political aspirations up a notch and seek higher office, unfortunately that would be a huge loss to Burien. He runs an absolutely effective and efficient meeting and as such Burien is recovering from the damage of less competent past leadership and council members.
